Job Description:

SUMMARY

Under the Direction of the Chemical Engineering Manager, this position will work in polymer chemistry doing formulation and process scale ups. The Principal Chemist is in the business of formulating and manufacturing hydrogels used in the medical device industry on products such as defibrillation electrodes, EKG electrodes, cosmetic patches, and wound care products. These hydrogels are used primarily for - 1) Adhesion and 2) Conductivity, while keeping biocompatibility in mind.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Polymer formulation and bench top evaluation of lab and production scale batches.
  2. Perform research and design experiments for formulation optimization on new project or for existing projects.
  3. Maintain lab notebook to document processes and provide records of results.
  4. Prepare presentations and technical documentation for internal and external customers.
  5. Trouble-shoot, solve, and communicate quality control problems with materials, work in process, and equipment.
  6. Accurately process and handle associated paperwork as required for the work being completed.
  7. Complete work in a timely manner according to departmental schedules.
  8. Operate basic analytical lab equipment, including mixers and coating machines with a minimal amount of supervision.
  9. Obey safety rules and exercise caution in all work activities.
  10. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Experience and Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related field. PhD preferred.
  2. 3-5 years' experience in related product development/formulation field or chemical lab setting.
  3. Able to communicate and work with others as a team. Strong leadership skills required.
  4. Able to read and understand assembly drawings and produce product accordingly.
  5. Strong attention to details.
  6. Good work attendance and dependability.
  7. Able to perform routine tasks on a continuing basis.
  8. Must be able to pass a background check.
